I took a break from the 30 Day Challenge yesterday to enjoy the quiet morning with sleeping in and a homemade pancake breakfast. Sometimes it is the simplest things, such as that, which provide serenity and a sense of calm. (By the way, if you're looking for a way to spruce up your pancakes, try this apple topping recipe - delicious and perfect for the upcoming fall season!)
Rather than sharing a photo today, I wanted to share a story. A friend recently lent me a book that has allowed me to pause for a moment in the seemingly never-ending pursuit of what is important in life and just enjoy each day. The book references the story of a young woman, Trin, who went to college to study neurology to become a doctor. Constantly striving to be the top in her class, she never gave another career path or course of study another thought. Her classmates noticed it wasn't her dedication to become a doctor that drove her to succeed, but rather the sense of accomplishment and pride she who would feel after acing a test. In her junior year, her father unexpectedly died in an accident, leaving Trin feeling lost and hopeless. Weeks after the tragedy, she began hearing her father's voice telling her, "follow your heart." After much thought and deliberation, she eventually realized medicine was not her true interest, and decided to listen to her father's advice by pursuing creative writing instead. She drastically changed her career path in a leap of faith to truly pursue what she wanted.
My point in sharing the story is, while "follow your heart" may seem like an ambiguous and open ended request, it is a fairly simple instruction. Just a thought to ponder on this marvelous Monday.
Today's tune, The Bees - "Chicken Payback." Guaranteed to get you in a groovy mood!
