More than a game

Being a few days away from the start of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games is exciting for many reasons. Some of you may know that I have a fascination with the Olympics and would someday love to work for the United States Olympic Committee or some other organization that has a similar role in the Games. The Olympics are a time when the world can come together, despite their differences, and share in the joy of celebrating human achievement together. It is an inspiring and incredible event to watch, and I can only imagine how exciting it must be to actually be a part of the events! The other day, one of my professors brought up the video of the 4x100 men's freesstyle relay from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Regardless of if you've seen it or not, you need to watch it again! The exciting and unpredictable race leaves you on the edge of your seat and even though this event took place nearly two years ago and the results were already set in stone, I still wanted to stand up and cheer for the U.S. team!!! I think the race encompasses what the Olympics are about - teamwork, leadership, hard work, dedication, and challenges - something that can also be applied to every day life. I look forward to the start of the Vancouver games on Feb. 12, and I will certainly be sharing more inspiring and uplifting stories as the events approach.

  1. I don't know why, but the Olympics inspire me every time they come around again, too. It is the stories of the men and women who work so hard, and sometimes win against incredible odds. I love it!
